I really found all the readings of this seminar quite interesting, some of them I really just loved and enjoyed thoroughly, like The Emperors letter to George the III, (I believe that is the correct title), Then there is the reading about Chinese Philosophy, and the excerpts written by Lu Xun, I like these so much that I actually ordered me the book, and can hardly wait for it to be delivered. A very interesting read for me was the one about the sent down youth in Yunnan as I could not believe the audacity of the article. The readings is about Filial Piety were also interesting, but at the same time I found these comical to an extent. As I know for a fact that Filial Piety exits in Asia, and here in, U.S., also in the Asian cultures. These comic books told of the devotion to the parents and to how much of an extreme the offspring would go and do for the parents. Like when a bride is supposed to listen to her father rather than her husband, (from the lecture), this is the part I found comical as here in the U.S. the American culture does not do this, and (that I know of). However different cultures do, do so to some extent. Then there were the articles on the soil, water and air pollution in China, and the ones of the different Dynasties, and all that happened in those years and in between. These articles I found fascinating as I did not know many of things that were stated in them, like how bad the pollution is in Asia. However there were some reading that I found hard to interpret, and know the meaning of the message that they were trying to convey. Although I read them several times, (Peach Blossom and The Village Headman and the New teacher, to name a couple), It was/is interesting to me to know and understand that some of you, (my colleagues), were able to do so. Kudos to you guys.
