    I think our meal today was as close to authentic Chinese cuisine as one can get in L.A. My personal favorite dish was the shrimp with the light cream sauce over rice. Yummy! Seriously, I couldn't believe how much food was coming out. I could have muddled my way through lunch with the chop sticks, but chose to chow down with a good old fork. Didn't want to make a fool of my American self.
    Something in the soup didn't agree with my taste buds, but other than that, what a lovely lunch in Chinatown. Wish we could have stayed and wandered around a bit, but that's trip for another day.

    I found the article on the emergence of sushi to be quite interesting. I have always been fascinated by the merging of art, culture and food that is sushi. One thing that stood out to me was the different between the fishing methods in the North Atlantic as compared to the Mediterranean. The North Atlantic appears to be a rod and reel enterprise that is remarkably small-scale and entrepreneurial. This contrast sharply with the large-scale corporations that harvest tuna in the Mediterranean Sea. I am curious to know about the sustainability of the species. As a teacher, this subject seems ripe for a lesson that can incorporate ecology, economics and culture.... Fascinating!

    Dr. Jung-Kim's presentation and discussion of the "Paris of the East - New York of the West" was fascinating. The hybrid cycle is something that we have been discussing AP Art History, re-hybridization. But my favorite new word of the week has to be "glocalization". I have been very aware of these concepts and will be trying to overtly discuss them when we discuss the modern world in world history.

    I completely agree that food is a great way to get students incorporated into participating in class. Giving food incentives is always a great way to persuade students to join in on whatever is going on in the classroom. It also allows students to experience new flavors and textures in their mouths that they have never tried.
