The above link is to a fabulous BBC article about Bejing's Penis Emporium. Only in China, according to the BBC, can diners eat penises from animals all over the world! For $5,700 you too can eat a tiger penis!
Chinese Vegetarian Restaurants

Ancient Chinese Secret?
I don't think so! But House of Vege is certainly one of the South Bay's best kept secrets for Chinese food.
All the dishes are prepared in a faux meat manner using soy, taro, gluten, and mushrooms.
House of Vege is a vegetarian delight, but even carnivores enjoy the Vege. The Orange "chicken" is reportedly the best around. And since most of the diners on any given afternoon or evening are Asian, you know the place is good!
This would be a good reason to boycott the Olympics
During this UTLA seminar I have found a diamond in the dust, if you will. Paris Bakery is located in Korea town. From the UTLA building it is four blocks west on Wilshire and one block north (I forget the street name/ but next to a 7/11). I would recommend this bakery to anyone who loves sweets, but would also caution that endulging may be costly$$$$. Today my family looks forward to my East Asia seminar meetings because this means rich chocolate croissants and rasberry topped pastries. [Edit by="hmartinez on May 17, 1:21:34 PM"][/Edit]
So I live just a few minutes from Monterey Park and I am never quite sure where to go when I want good food. I've found good dim sum, very good Sushi (corner of Garfield and Riggin) ,however I am always on the prowl for something tasty. I've been meaning to go to Happy Family, on Atlantic and Garvey, I believe that it's vegetarian. Gas is expensive so if I can travel 10 min from East LA to MP instead of all the way to the west side is always appreciated. Any recommends? Location? What to have? Remember I'm teacher, price is definitely a factor
I was introduced to PF Changs restaurant about three years ago. Today, I frequently eat at this restaurant, at least once every two months. I recommend the lettuce wraps and pork fried dumplings as starters (one order of each feeds two). The Mongolian beef and white rice (1 order also feeds two) for the main course. The highlight of the meal would have to be dessert, spring fried banana rolls (1 order). Total for the meal is about $50.00. I go out to other restaurants and this is reasonable, believe it or not. I belive this is a Japanesse restaurant but would not bank on authentic Japannese taste, thats my opinion, but I still enjoy going there.
PF Chang is "chinese" food. I consider it Chinese inspired with some real Chinese dishes but most of it it catered to American tastes. It's ok to me, but it doesnt taste like real Chinese food that I grew up with.
The very best is Sushi Studio (also in the LBC) 😛

It's a tiny little place and the parking is terrible--hey, it is Long Beach, you can't have everything. In fact, it shares a parking lot with a motel. Don't let that discourage you! It is a true local haunt and fills up quickly.
For a good Chinese restaurant try Prince Seafood Restaurant in Cerrittos. There are lots of good places in Cerrittos, but this one is a favorite. It can get pricey, but I generally order off of the Dine In Menu and share, family style with friends. The food is plentiful and tasty. It is recently re-opened after some minor remodeling (a kitchen fire, I think) and I will say this: while there are some very elegant aspects to it (the main dining room is gorgeous, the upstairs dining room is also very pleasant and has a full bar) there are still parts that are decidely shabby (like the bathrooms) :~ .
This may seem odd...but the best Japanese food I have ever had was in Europe. Here in Southern California we have a lot of opportunities to try different cultural foods. I have been to several Japanese restaurants in the greater L.A. area but none compare to a small wonderful restaurant in Harlem, Netherlands. I went there a few summers ago but I still think of it often. It was amazing and the group of friends I was with would all agree. However, I must say I have never had Japanese food in Japan...yet. If the food in Japan is as good as I remember from Harlem I just might move to Japan permantely.
I went to Dim Sum in Rowland Heights, Diamond Plaza, and it was pretty good. Their Bao was delicious. The prices were comparable to CBS or Ocean Star.
Near East L.A., there is Kung Pao Bowl in Norwalk very affordable. Off Atlantic there's Ocean Star. Noodle World has good pad thai. If you take the 60 and exit Fullerton there is an awesome Pho place, very cheap.
I would like to correct myself and say that PF Changs restaurant is a China Bistro, I was under the impression it was Japanese. My bad.
I'd love to take my kids to Little Tokyo.
There is a great sushi restaurant here in Calabasas. The food is excellent as is the service and ambience...great place to have some fun! It's called Shibuya Sushi and is located across from the Sagebrush Cantina off of Calabasas Rd. tucked back on a little side street. The valet people will even wash your car for you while you eat. Imagine that! Enjoy the Sake!
