Hi, Everyone,
Currently I am staying in Taiwan teaching Mandarin Chinese. I spent most of my childhood in South Korea before my family immigrated to the U.S., and just in recent years my husband and I moved back to Asia again in Taiwan. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to join this forum. I look forward to learning this great topic, Two Koreas, with you all!
Hello! My name is Billie Johnson and I currently teach 6th grade History and ELA. I like to integrate current events with what we are learning in class as a way to extend learning in the classroom, so even though it may not be part of the curriculum I find a way to introduce it. I want my students to be curious about the world around them so they become aware that we are but one piece of a global puzzle. As I learn, I share my experiences with my students. This strengthens and builds relationships. I am excited for this learning opportunity and cannot wait to share with my students. Thank you!
My name is Len Krieger, I am a World History Teacher and Head Basketball Coach from Houston, Texas. I recently turned 34 years old, and have been teaching and coaching for over a decade now. My hobbies include: Going to church, reading the Bible, playing poker, fantasy football, watching/playing sports, cooking/BBQing, and learning. I have also been known to tell a joke or two. I look forward to learning from each and every one of you and cannot wait to see what the Two Koreas can offer in regard to my students.
Sincerely,
-Len
Hello! I'm Olivia Kim, a high school senior from Los Angeles. As I am not a teacher, I am clearly not taking this course for credit, but I hope to learn lots of valuable information to assist me in my independent study on the Korean Independence Movement and to help me better understand my Korean roots! I am thrilled to be a part of this course, and I look forward to gaining new perspectives!
Hello from Las Vegas!
My name is Angelique, and I'm a high school ELA teacher and my high school's IB Diploma Coordinator. I love teaching primary source analysis and extended research arguments. The other thing I'm really loving right now is the weather: Las Vegas has finally dropped below 100 degrees. Fall is officially here.
I am looking forward to learning about Korea's past and present with all of you.
Greetings All--
I am a Sophomore English teacher at an IB high school here in Tucson and this is my 10th year teaching. The curriculum for Sophomore English includes the study of political systems of thought, particularly, as those are studied in relation to George Orwell's, "Animal Farm." It was possible for me to study a little Korean literature through a summer class on High School Asian Literature at Indiana University at Bloomington, but otherwise know little about the society and history of Korea, and thus it is with great curiosity and enjoyment that I am participating. Thank you for inviting me, and good luck to all!
Hello -
I teach in Las Vegas Nevada. I am originally from Albuquerque, NM where I attended college and started my teaching career. About 13 years ago I moved to Vegas. Clark Country is the fifth largest school district in the country and an interesting place to work. I am currently in my 20 year of teaching. I have taught pretty much every Social Studies subject within 6-12 grade. I am excited about this class and learning more about Korea.
My name is Sonia Arrayales. I am a second grade teacher for LAUSD. I am excited to take this course and learn more about the country of Korea and its people. I hope to gather information to pass onto my students. Wishing everyone all the best!

Hello, everyone. I'm Duane Johansen, a humanities instructor at the Excel Center in Kokomo, Indiana. My school is a special school run by Goodwill Industries that helps adults get the work done that they need to finish their high school diplomas. We are an accredited public/private cooperative charter school. I teach integrated language arts/social studies classes, including two levels of combined English/World Civilizations classes. This summer, I was honored to be among ten teachers chosen for a study tour of South Korea via Indiana University. I have done many seminars related to East Asia and Korea and am on the editorial board of the magazine Education About Asia. I am the father of three wonderful sons ranging in age from 15-23, and I have one cat who doesn't like other people.
