My name is Ann Diederich and I am a French, Spanish and History teacher at Polytechnic School in Pasadena, California.  I also co-direct our global intiatives program, which involves curricular integration and travel programs.  I was slated to take a group of 18 students to Beijing and Xi'an this March, but have needed to cancel this morning.  I have had the opportunity to travel to China in the 80s as a high school student and then later as an educator/Sinophophile.  I look forward to this course.

Hi all! This is Diana Corey from St. Louis. I teach Mandarin at a small, private middle school/high school. It is a ton of fun. It is important for me to keep up with how the times are changing in China, especially as someone who was not raised there and has not lived there for over a decade. I am looking forward to this class!

My name is Ben Schwarting, and I teach English in Nampa, Idaho. I have always been deeply interested in East Asia studies, especially relations between the East and the West, and I believe that the current political/economic/social complexities surrounding China are among the most important topics I can address in my class to help my students be world-ready, global citizens.

Hi Everyone - great to meet you via the net this evening. I look forward to interacting with you via the forum and in our weekly discussion sessions.
I have headed the USC US-China Institute since 2006. My own experiences in China started in 1982. I taught there 1982-85 and subsequently lived there to carry out research in 1989 and 1990-92. I have visited many times and its been my privilege to take teachers there as well. Catherine and I last led a tour to China and Taiwan in 2018.

I'm a historian, but have always been curious about contemporary China and devote most of my professional time to learning more about various aspects of China's society, politics, economy, and culture. My hobbies include travel and photography, though I do much too little of both.

This is my second year teaching and often times my students bring up random topics which is always fun and challenging.
