Hello everyone. I am currently working in a middle school in South La: John Muir Middle School. This is the first year I will be teaching all three grade levels 6-8th (ancient civilizations, medieval history, and U.S. History). I want to learn more about Asia so that I can learn more content history and be well informed to teach. I just finish taking a  USC- US China Institute about Two Koreas and I found it very interesting and very informative. I am looking forward to reading and learnig more about Asia.

Dear All, I am a doctoral program student at USC Rossier School of Education. I grew up in Taiwan. My background is real estate investment & operation for student housing, hotel, retail and restaurants. My research interest lies in restaurant education, particularly addressing the Covid-recovery era. In the K-12 field, I want to work on the career education for high school students in California, Las Vegas and East Asia. I am excited in taking the “Crossing boundaries in East Asia” seminar. Hello everyone! I am a high school Visual Arts teacher in Williamston, North Carolina. I have travelled to Thailand in a study abroad program in college  and was just in a seminar about the Two Koreas through USC-China. I have been an anime fan since right after high school and watch a lot of C-dramas and K-dramas now. I think it's super important to bring as many cultures and as much historical context into my high school Art classes, and I have been the sponsor for the anime club at my school for about 5 years. I was able to take an Asian Art History class in college, but due to the expansiveness of Asian Art we primarily focused on Indian Art through temples and Chinese painting.

Hello! My name is Natalie Lau-Chien and I am currently a K-12 English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in Amherst, NH.  I grew up in Hawaii and left for college in MA, and now live in NH.  I was originally certified as a middle school social studies teacher and taught SS and LA for a few years.  Then, I was hired to teach all the content areas in a Sheltered English Immersion class and loved teaching ELLs.  Now I have a second certification in ESL and love weaving in content about other cultures into my curriculum to develop my students' academic language and knowledge and reflect their own languages/cultures.  I hope to weave the content that I learn through this seminar into my curriculum.  In addition, I have a personal interest in this topic as a Chinese American that grew up surrounded by family and friends of varying Asian heritages and am interested in learning about the cross-boundary connections.   (I also love C-dramas and K-dramas!)

Hi, I'm Lexy! I am a high school teacher in South Carolina; last year I taught modern world history and helped my state develop unit guides for the new inquiry-based standards that are being rolled out this year. Rightfully so, the new standards have a stronger emphasis on world history rather than just European history and the deep ways in which our global societies are connected, and I wanted to make sure I was prepared to teach about east Asia in depth and with fidelity!

Hello! Under normal circumstances, I am a secondary teacher of geography, world history, and international relations in Beijing, China.  We have been teaching in China (Shanghai and Beijing) for 6 years, though were in Washington and Massachusetts before that.   I left Beijing in January and am still a COVID refugee in Arizona though wishing I was back in China right now given escalating numbers in my area.  As a result, I have been teaching online since February and am not able to return yet to China due to closed borders.  I am looking forward to the Institute due to my love of Asian culture and my desire to meet more colleagues who are also interested in the region.

My name is Jiaxing Weng, I am the founder and director of Mingle Chinese Services, a Tai Chi instructor and a Chinese teacher at a charter high school in Sandy Springs, GA.  I grew up in China before coming to the U.S. for advanced degrees.  Now I have lived and worked in U.S. longer than my time in China   I am passionate about cross-cultural understanding.  And believe that this is even more important at this moment in history.  I look forward to learning and sharing with y'all!

Hello! I am Megan Hsiao. I teach Mandarin Chinese at Saint Joseph Academy, an all girls Catholic High School, in Cleveland Ohio. My students are from 9th-12th grades, learning Chinese from beginning level I to the advanced placement AP Chinese. This summer I just completed a NCTA-Ohio 2020 seminars, National Consortium for Teaching About Asia coordinated by the East Asian Study Center at the Ohio State University and I am excited to learn more in this program by USC. I am looking forward to joining the discussions and exchanging ideas of teaching about East Asia here!
