SpectatorHi Everyone - I'm Clayton Dube, director of the USC U.S.-China Institute. I'll be participating in this online course with you. I'm really looking forward to learning from Morgan Pitelka and to meeting you. Please do click "reply" and add your own self-introduction.
I teach Chinese history and politics, with particular attention to a) social and economic change since 1800, b) how Chinese see the world and how the world sees China, and c) U.S.-China relations. I love to travel, but have seen more of China than I have of the U.S. or anywhere else. I am a news junkie and love exploring cities and towns of all sorts.

SpectatorHi Everyone,
I'm Jennifer Lee. I have been teaching for the past 15 years in Thousand Oaks. I teach a variety of art classes including AP Art History and IB Visual Arts. I already teach some Japanese art in the Art History Class and in IB Visual Arts. I am taking a leave of absence next school year to do the JET program and live in Japan for a year. I'm looking forward to learning more about Japan from this class and being able to apply it with my students in Japan and America.

This summer I plan to visit Scotland. This will be my first real vacation in 2 years, so I am very excited. Have any of you been to Scotland before? It will be my first time there.

SpectatorI've only briefly been to Edinburgh. But I loved my time there. The highland cows are adorable and the scenery is so green and lush.
Do you have any tips or resources for learning Japanese? I'm trying to learn on my own, but its been going pretty slow.

SpectatorHello everyone,
I'm a teacher of both US History and World History up in the redwoods in Humboldt County. I'm excited to be part of this forum! I just finished my Japan unit and my students are carving linoleum blocks in the spirit of Ukiyo-e. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the first meeting, I double booked with my Physical therapist... but will see you all next week! Cheers and Scotland should be a blast! I'm hoping to travel to Japan next fall and use my nephew, who is teaching there, as my guide! Looking forward to indulging in their baked goods and hiking in the mountains!

SpectatorMy name is Peggy Lovro. I've been a Mandarin Chinese teacher for over 10 years and started teaching Freshman seminar course about 3 years ago. Our school is a magnet school located in Norwalk, Connecticut. Students in our school take one of the 3 languages- Arabic, Chinese or Japanese langauge. I have always been interested in learning more about Japanese history and culture, particulary in a comparative study with what happened around the same time in China.
