I am a high school teacher in Canberra, Australia. My teaching areas are Geography (Year Levels 7 through to 10), Global Studies (Year 11 and Year 12) and Global Politics as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Within the Global Studies and Global Politics courses we investigate Global Processes - Power, sovereignty, international relations, Global challenges (human rights and development, sustainability) and Global Opportunities (Peace, conflict). Given China is becoming more economically powerful, its influence grows and, consequently, forms part of class discussion quite regularly. I am keen to garner more ideas to adapt into my lessons.

Hello all,
Joining a little late here, but happy to be apart of this. My name is Brendon McGirr. I teach Global Politics, History, World Religions, and Anthropology at an IB school in Pennsylvania. I am looking to expand my knowledge of China to better enrich my Global Politics course. I can already see how week 1's readings could be used in my unit on development. Really excited to discuss and collaborate with you all.
Hello, hello! I'm Isaac Esquivel and I'm a 3rd grade teacher in Los Angeles. I've always wanted to maintain the attention of my class and so, when math or other topics start dragging, I've always sprinkled a bit of facts about something amazing I've learned about other cultures, something a lot of our youth are not exposed to. I think learning about different cultures, foods, religions, etc., brings a sense of curiosity to students, and it can be a way of exposing them to something different. It is my hope that this leads to them be more tolerant of people that are different from their own. Because I'm no expert in any of these cultures, I'm here, as many of you, as a life-long learner eager to learn new things and devise ways to introduce these into the classroom.

Hello everyone, my name is Elizabeth Quintero. I am currently a high school social studies teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District. I teach world history and the relatively new class of ethnic studies. I am very much looking forward to learning about China in this course. I definitely feel like my world history class is too focused on Europe. The content standards and subsequently the textbook focuses too much on Europe, and I believe it overlooks countries in Africa and Asia. I believe this is a problem considering the class is called "world" history. I am hoping to acquire new knowledge about China and incorporate it into both my world history classes and ethnic studies classes.
Hello,
My name is Gurpreet Gill. I am a Kindergarten teacher. This is my ninth year teaching. I am excited to take this course and learn more about China. I believe it is important for students to be exposed to different countries, cultures and languages aside from their own in order to promote curiousity, inclusivity, and a love for learning. I am excited to use the knowledge gained in this course to enhance my lessons and curriculum for my students.
