Hi Jesica, it's nice to meet you! Thank you for joining the course despite the time difference. Hoping to hear more connections with your expertise in the discussions, and hopefully the seminar can provide something new to learn as well!
Hello Sarah, it was nice meeting you yesterday! It is great hearing your multi-modal lesson plan ideas in the forum for session 1, and we look forward to your thoughts on the future sessions as well!
Hello Pooja, it was nice meeting you yesterday! It's wonderful to hear that you are exploring new subjects and looking for ways to make your teaching more interdisciplinary, and please don't hesitate to share your thoughts and experiences throughout the seminar.
Hi Megan, it was nice meeting you yesterday! Looking forward to hearing your reflections on the seminar and learning together.
Hi Jesica,
I also lived in Eugene for 10years, did my Masters at UofO, and left to go teach in international schools, including in Asia (Taiwan). Good connection. James
Hi All.
I taught IB Economics, Geography, and Global Politics for 18 years in the US (New York and Oregon) and in international schools in Morocco, Panama, and Taiwan. Living in Taiwan taught me that I didn't know enough about the history to appreciate the art and culture. Although I primarily live in Colombia now, I still wish to do a deep dive and discover more. Thanks for the opportunity and apologies for missing last week's discussion. I was at a conference in DC. See you soon.
Hello everyone! My name is Mishna and I'm currently teaching Geology and Physics at the high school level. Ever since I took AP World History as a 10th grader, my interest in East Asian culture and religion grew and continues to be something about which I'm always curious. As an immigrant myself, I enjoy learning about the world as well as different perspectives and ideas. I really look forward to learning about how modern East Asian traditions and culture has developed into what it is today. Excited to discuss with everyone!
Hi there! I'm Sarah. I have a degree in Poli Sci from UC Berkeley and a MAT in ECLS (English and Comparative Literary Studies). I started teaching in a Korean private school in 1990 where I taught K and 1st grade for 3 years and 7-12 for 4 years. I then began working in LAUSD in 1997 and have just recently moved to my home school (one block from my house!) after 25 years at the same high school teaching English. I've raised four children and survived 31 years of marriage... I'm excited to be taking a course now that my youngest has turned 18 and I have a moment to catch my breath before she leaves for college. I'm not very tech savvy and I hope I can keep up in this online course. Please help me. I hope I can add to the discourse...
I currently teach 8th and 8th graders in an IB school. IB is very new to me... and I'm kind of a dinosaur. The last 15 years, I taught mostly honors and AP in a Highly Gifted Magnet, grades 9-12.
My name is Yao Jin and I am a Mandarin teacher at an IB high school. Before this, I used to teach Art in China. Teaching Mandarin has been a great experience for me and I am very passionate about it. I enjoy helping my students learn the language and culture of China. I'm very excited to learn more and help myself grow. Thank you.
Hi, I'm Terri from Vermont. I currently teach English, social studies and psychology in an online program through my public school. This is my 15th year teaching online and my 43rd year teaching. In the past I've taught grades K, 1, 2, 7-12, undergraduate and graduate programs. This semester I have 9-12 grade students in psychology and English studies and teach one graduate class in Methods for Online Learning.
I received an NEA Foundation Global Fellowship in 2011 and went to China with a group of teachers. That experience made me realize how important global citizenship is in our education system. After that incredible experience, I have worked with my school to increase global studies. Last summer I received a second fellowship and spent 2 wonderful weeks in Peru visiting schools. That was just before the revolution there; I wasn't surprised to hear about all the unrest this winter after talking to students and teachers.
I'm also a National Board Certified Teacher since 1999.
Hello Everyone! I'm so sorry this has taken me so long to post but I'm so happy and feel fortunate to be here! My name is Jillian. I'm an elementary school teacher. Currently I teach grade five at an international school in Thailand but I taught at a couple of international schools in South Korea before moving here. I'm originally from Massachusetts in the US but have been teaching in Asia since 2008.
Living in Asia, I feel it's important for me to know more about the history of this region. In addition to just being curious, I'm also looking to incorporate more local/regional history content into my social studies lessons with my students. In the future, my school will be making this shift as well. We may be an American international school but we're located in Thailand and honoring the local culture is important.
Thank you so much for your patience with me! I look forward to interacting with you more! I hope you're having a great day!
