    Hi everybody,

My name is Brandon Abraham, and I teach eleventh and twelfth-grade English at Hamilton Humanities Magnet in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood. I've been teaching since 2001, so 16 years(time flies, right?). It's my first year at Hami, having spent most of my career along the Vermont Corridor(West Adams and Manual Arts High Schools). Currently, I'm the teacher-advisor for our Teen Court program, but I also have coached Academic Decathlon. Outside of school, although I'm currently taking a break from local politics, I sit on the boards of various Democratic Clubs in our city, as well as holding leadership positions within UTLA.

Namely, I'm taking this class for a second time because I teach our Humanities 9 class, a ten-week introductory course for our freshman, and I am currently developing a course on China, focusing on the post-1949 People's Republic. For the first several weeks, many of the handouts and resources will allow students to have a firm foundation for the rest of the course. Having visited China myself in the summer of 2016, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to expand our students' horizons in this way.

Hi friends, I am Genaro Flores. I teach Spanish and ELD at Academia Avance. I have taught AP Spanish and other lower levels of Spanish. Also, I teach basic ESL at night for LAUSD. In addition, I worked at Cal. State LA, for the Spanish Department Bilingual Play Production. We Presented plays from writers like Henrik Ibsen, Anton Chekhov, Tirso De Molina and others.

I am enjoying this Seminar on East Asia. I have assigned to my students a project on China, Japan, and Korea. Also, we have been working on haiku that was consider the most famous Japan three-lines art form poems. Yes, definitely, this Seminar is giving me more tools to use in my classes of Spanish and English. It will expand the knowledge of my students on other cultures.

Hi All.... my name is Ronald Taw.  I am a 6th Grade Math/Science Core teacher at Palms Middle School.  In the past, I have taught every su core subjects. I have been teaching for over 17 years.  I am taking this class for my own self-intellectual fullfillment and to pass on what I learned onto my students.

This is my second time taking this class.  I took this course about 10 years ago, when it was offered at the UTLA building.  I found the class to be very information.  Being of Chinese descent borned in Rangoon, Burma (Myamar) and immigrated tot he United States at the age of 11, and also, a Political Science major, all I know is western civilization.  I am a life long learner.  In 2008, I was selected by Los Angeles-Nagoya Sister Cities Association to teach English in Nagoya, Japan for 2 years.  And in 2011, I was awared a Fullbright Fellowship to study Arabic language and culture for the Summer in Morocco.

I look forward to listening and reading all your taughts and opinions in this class...

    Hi Everyone,

My name is Betty Laureano, I work at Garfield High School located in East Los Angeles. I work with students from 9-12 grade. I have been with LAUSD for about 20 years. I started as a teacher assistant back in 1998. A couple of years after, I became a substitute teacher.   A long-term substitute.  After being a long-term substitute in the Mathematics Department, I became a highly qualify Mathematics Teacher. I was riffed in 2015; therefore I then decided to teach special education. I taught an Autism Core classes for two years. This school year I have a new position. I’m back in mathematic classes as a Resources Specialist Provider (RSP Teacher).

I’m excited to take this class because two years ago Garfield elected some teachers to visit a sister school in China. Among those teachers I was elected and privileged to visit Beijing, China. Although my trip felt short my experience was truly amazing. I brought some knowledge to share with my students and family. I am excited to announce visiting China made a great impact to my life that I will be traveling back to China with my family this upcoming June 2018. Taking this course will not only help me share knowledge with my students, but help me make connections and have better understandings when I visit China this June.

Sorry for the very late post. I recently purchased a home and have been trying to settle in. Believe it or not I don’t know how my family and I survive not having access at home to Internet until just recently. Therefore I have a lot to catch up on my posts.  I tried to post at work but unfortunately I have been overwhelmed with many IEP’s I had to prepare and held meetings for.  Please bear with me.  Thank you, take care, and see you all soon.smiley

I am Christine. I teach Mandarin at Academia Moderna Charter school (LAUSD). This is my 6th year of teaching as a Mandarin teacher.

I am happy to see my kids learning Mandarin and Chinese culture. I would love to learn more Asian culture and history from this seminar, and use it into my own teaching.
