I’m a high school librarian in Boyle Heights. This is my 10th year as a librarian at the school. I enjoy reading, hiking and traveling. I look forward to meeting everyone tomorrow and getting some advice on how to travel to so many countries! My last international travel was three years ago.
Sorry to be so late to chime in, it's been a long day...
I look forward to meeting everyone, seems like people will be coming from many different directions. I've taught for LAUSD (south area) for 16 years, mainly first grade, but most recently 6th. I admire anyone who could teach a combo class and remain sane! I hope your ability to multi-task might rub off on me. Being an expert in multiple fields has always been a challenge.
Besides teaching, I enjoy bicycling, scuba diving, and ballroom dancing. I am very proud of my daughter, who attends FIDM in DTLA. I have never been to Asia, but have family members who lived in China, the Philippines, and New Zealand.
That's the nutshell version of who I am. See you tomorrow!

Of the teachers who have introduced themselves so far, I think you may be the closest (geographically) to me. I teach in Wilmington. Meet you tomorrow, I think I could benefit from being around your youthful energy!

Hello All! My name is Christine, I am a Moderate to Severe Special Education teacher at Widney Career Preparatory Transition Center, servicing students 18-22 years old. This is my second class on East Asia, and I look forward to meeting you and learning with you about East Asia. The way this class has been relavant to my special needs population is that - that I have been able to take what I have learned and synthesize the information to more digestable/modified content to help support the ideas and current events int he news abotu asia now.
Hi Stephanie! A long time ago, I used to be a substitute teacher at Eucalyptus Elementary in Hawthorne, a great school! I loved working in Hawthorne and with the administrators! But, like I said this was about ten years ago. I am glad we are in this class together!
Good morning! Sorry, for the late introduction. My name is Gerlinde. I am a first-grade teacher at a dual immersion (German) and International Baccalaureate charter school in LAUSD near Culver City. In the afternoons, I teach German Langauge Arts to high school students who are alumni of the school. I am very excited and fortunate to take another class with the USC US-China Institute. I love history and I would like to focus on my older students during this course. I hope to develop some interesting lessons for them.
Hello everybody,
It was nice to see and meet you all this past Saturday. I'm currently an Adapted Physical Education teacher teaching Specially Designed Physical Education to students with disabilities at Widney Community Preparatory Transition Center. It is my first full time teaching job at LAUSD but have taught K-12+ throughout the past 8 years at charter schools, non-public schools, and public schools. I've worked as a teacher assistant, bus aide, classroom aide, instructional aide, associate teacher and substitute teacher. My current specialization is in Special Education as I have worked as a behavior therapist, community intergration tutor, and caregiver for students with disabilities.
Ready to meet, learn and talk to you all throughout this course.
Best of luck,
Sal
Hi Amy,
I also teach 6th grade English and Social Studies. I am currently teaching at South Gate Middle School in the Los Angeles Unified School District. I've been teaching for 15 years. Before teaching, I was a stay-at-home mom.
This is Ricardo P. Reyes who is a 12th grade teacher at Manuel Dominguez High School in the Compton USD. My classes are a semester each of U.S. Government and economics. I have one AP US Government & Politics/Honors economics class. In the summer I have been assigned World and/or U.S. History. I have also worked government, politics, and in the private sector. Teaching high school allows me to focus on my acquisition of social studies and business knowledge and have some free time to be involved in civic and political activities. I have studied and traveled abroad and have been mostly local and stable for the last 16 years living nearby in downtown.
