I began my teaching career as an 8th grade social studies teacher on a small island called Saipan, part of the Northern Mariana Islands and lived there for 5 years. I currently live in West Los Angeles. Good to meet everyone
I teach Spanish I and II in Upland Unified School District. I will start my second year at the end of August. I taught and travel in China last summer, so I had an introduction to the Chinese culture. This is my first seminar, and I am excited to learn more to understand my students.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Marcos Garrido and I teach Social Studies at Mark Twain Middle School in the LAUSD. This is my first time taking this seminar and I’m very excited.
Hello Everyone!
How are you doing? I am a teacher in the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). I teach eleventh grade (American Literaure) and the twelveth grade (Expository Reading and Writing Course, ERWC), so many of the students are between the ages of 15-18 years of age. I am looking forward to sharing teaching practices and discussing strategies for incorporating East Asian academic content into the lesson plans. See you in seminar.
Hello, my name is Midori Esmeralda Angelita Yoshiko Sanchez. I am a 9th grade English teacher at Long Beach, Millikan High School and adult school math teacher at the Long Beach School for Adults. This is my second seminar, and although I missed the first day (I was just wrapping up a trip in Japan) I am looking forward to meeting you all!
My photo was taken in Nishiki Market in Kyoto, Japan!
Your Japan excursion will magnify what we learn in seminar, so glad to your here, and yes, looking forward to your exposition and collaboration!
Hello! My name is Nelson Ta and I am a 6th-year teacher at Huntington Park in Los Angeles Unified. Over the course of my tenure at HP, I have taught 10th and 11th-grade language arts, AP English Langauge and Composition, AVID 9, 10, and 11, and Journalism. As an American-born Chinese who grew up speaking Cantonese, I have a love-hate relationship with China. I have met some great people during my visits, but I have also encountered many difficulties with the culture and sociopolitical structure of the country. I look forward to learning from the prestigious guest professors.
Thanks Marcos! I wish I could; however, I have to get back to school next week. I’m planning another trip out to California in the next couple of years. It’ll be exciting to come back with more time to look around. I’d be happy to hear about some of your favorite places.
Hello everybody,
I am Salbador Preciado Gonzalez, an Adapted Physical Education(APE) teacher for LAUSD. The 2019-20 school year will be my second year as an APE teacher for LAUSD. I have worked in the Physical Education field for the past 9 years during the K-12 grade levels as well as in a Career Preparatory Transitional Center. I have taken the East Asia: Origins to 1800 during the Spring. I enjoyed the eye opening sessions and reflections, movie reviews, and the lesson planning. I have enjoyed the reflection on the world that East Asia has given me, especially after taking an East Asia seminar. Ready to learn about the gender and generations in East Asia!
Hello,
My name is Ann Huynh and this year I will be teaching first graders at Norwood Street School. I would like to try to utilize the images/photographs in my teaching this year about Asia.
