Good morning. My name is Wilbert Ortiz and this is my first year in public school but I have 13 years teaching in the non-public/juvenile hall settings. I currently teach Special Ed History/English in South L.A. at Edison Middle School (6th-8th graders).  I took a Korean Seminar at the Korean Center in June and it was one of the best experiences I have had. I became interested in the Asian culture afterwards and I hope to get that much of an experience with this course.

Also, I do not have any school loyalty but I DO THINK THE SMITHS ARE THE GREATEST BAND PERIOD!

I teach 7th (world) and 8th (U.S.) history at Mark Twain Middle School in Mar Vista (LAUSD). I am fortunate to teach at a school with great language programs. I teach two of my history classes in Spanish (Dual Language-Spanish) and a seventh grade class to Language Immersion students (Mandarin).

I'm participating in this seminar to deepen my understanding of East Asia, especially because it was not a prominent topic in my own education.
