Based on the reading on Modernizing Korea and Colonial Rule (1896-1945)
I found this information most useful for my students as an introduction of adversity."The colonial period involved major social, economic, cultural, and ideological trasformation that entailed both human suffering and possibilities for development" The attempts of reform from Japan and Russian dusing its colonial reign promoting nationalism and modern ways of interaction developed constraints among the two counties due to world opinion about these two countries. Along with the national movement, "The new independence Club demanded the dismissal of corrupt officials and strove to educate people on the need to modernize the country" leading to the start of newspapers, journals, underground organizations lead by religious groups. Japan started the Korean economic development without liberal democracy leading Korea's economy to flourish in companies "dyeing, paper, leather, ceramics, milling, and brewing due to domestic demand."
In the 1930s other industries contunue to have sucess in Korea such as rubber industries like Tong'a Rubber Company along with cheap textile manufacturing.
