Before this course, I did not know anything about the different religions of East Asia. There were several that I had never heard before a couple that I had heard of, but knew nothing about. This made me reflect on why I had heard of them before - there are still people who practice them today. While I did not know much about Buddhism, I am interested in learning more about it. For that reason, I found the last reading particularly interesting. I think it was interesting how when Buddhism was first being introduced into China, there was not one doctrine, but instead several different ways of engaging with the religion. I also found it interesting that it was very popular among foreigners, particularly for the fact that Buddhism did not put them at any disadvantage, as Confucianism did, and helped to unify the people. I also found the section of this reading about slaves interesting and have yet to see a piece of history where aboriginal people are not exploited.
