These articles as a whole are interesting in that they all speak about the populace from different stand points. From an up rising to birth control, labor, economy and migration. The Tiananmen situation shows us how reform in what ever form is threatening to those who hold power. For example the poster of April 24, 1989 called for accountability through freedom of speech and freedom of press. If China sought to look at other countries as is suggested in the articles Latin America was rife with change and unrest. Governments suppress the opposition through what ever means they find useful mostly through violence. Migration makes issues like social unrest more difficult particularly if you direct your nation to use birth control as a means for ending poverty. East Asia is a melting pot for a myriad of issues. The central issues are all tied to the society and the economy. These article show the broad stream of issues and present them in a way that makes you see Asia as a whole rather than separate entity.
