AsiaSociety.org has some excellent resources. In line with a unit we work on all year, "The Worlds' Classrooms", we are studying what education looks like for students the same age as my students. This article, South Korean Education, is a dense and comprehensive resource on education in South Korea.
This article describes the physical layout of the school as well as the curriculum studied. The article explores primary and secondary schools with detailed information about the structure and students' experiences. The article also explores the experiences of the teacher. There are some great insights into educational trends and what is expected to be seen in the future.
This article is a great place for me to start in teaching my students about what a South Korean classroom looks like. I would need to get several more resources with images, videos and student testimonials for my students to view. This article has no images other than a class photo of about 20 students in uniforms. I think I would pull the information from this article and turn it into a Show Me video so that it would include my narration with images and facts from what I find.
The rest of this website is predicated upon bridging communication between East Asia and the United States as well as any other nation in the world that wants to learn more about East Asia. There is a lot of incredible information on this site. The article I read shows some great promise as they appear to have some level of transparency and desire to have accuracy. The article I read had notes at the bottom expressing edits that happened because of experts (on South Korean education) comments and input.
As I have more time, I will work to find more articles that I will have my students use to find information in a scavenger hunt.
