Thanks for sharing the link Clay. I just saw the videos and read the article. While I am glad that we didn't have to experience it first hand, I'm saddened with the loss of lives and damaged that occurred. The pictures struck a cord. We were there less than a month ago. I loved our time there and would love to return in the future. Seeing the damage makes me wonder if there is anything we can do to help them with recovery efforts.
According to the article, the number of lives lost is at least 28 dead (7 in Taiwan, 21 China) and several are still missing. Air and railway travel was halted. Livestock and crops were also lost/damaged. "Agricultural damage in Taiwan is estimated to cost around $18.9 million, says the Taipei Times. Damage in China has been calculated at $617 million, according to Xinhua News Agency. Taiwan's Ministry of Education reported academic institutional damage reached $4 million nationwide, Taiwan News reported. At least 812 schools were damaged."
A natural disaster is a strong beast. Sad course of events.
