Maylynn thanks for the great idea about the year book. I just got one to take. I also got 5 t shirts and I am going to have the kids sign them. I will be sure to save you a carmel apple pop!!! Can't wait for our adventure.

I am also bringing 3 PVIS sports bags
Great idea to bring sports bags and bead bracelets. Can we carry all this stuff. Hey we can put things in your sport bags.....Just kidding!!! You have a great weekend too. Glad we are roomies.
Cathy
Can I have some of this swag? How are you guys going to bring all this stuff? Just kidding. Thank goodness I'm not competitive. I'm only bringing solid gold busts of all of my students. Each one has the student's autobiography engraved on the bottom; in Chinese and English, of course.
I think gold busts are a grand idea......No ugly American image there!!!!! Have a great weekend. Can't wait for the trip.
Cathy
I don't know about you guys....I'm packing lightly. Dragging bags around isn't something that I like to do!
So, for my gift to the kids, I'm bringing 100 Yao Ming NBA trading cards all in English. Easy to carry, collectable, and pretty cool for the Chinese kids to see that Yao is a star in the USA too.
Can't wait for our trip! How long is the flight by the way?

Hi, this is Bev Smith. I’ve taught in the P.V. School Dist. for 30+ years. Cathy – I’m competing for the “ Sage “ title. I’ve taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and combination classes – back in the days when you didn’t receive extra pay! I’m currently teaching 1st grade.
I grew up in Chicago but Minnesota is where my extended family lives. ( My maiden name was Olson.) I have two boys. Tyler is 23 and lives in – you guessed it- Minnesota.
Tyler is the proud Daddy of one year old Dyllan Thomas – weighing in at 1 lb. 10ozs. It was touch and go for awhile but Dyllan ( yes 2 L’s) is making progress. My younger son
Spencer is 21. He is mentally and physically challenged and he lives in a group home in Torrance. He still attends Tobinworld, a school for Autisic children that is located in Glendale. After searching for the best schools and programs for Spencer, I know how lucky he is that he was born in the U.S. I’ve noticed an increase in the number of Asian special needs children in Spencer’s classes over the years. Many parents decide to move to the US to provide the special programs that their children need.
I started Grad school at Northwestern but after a visit with a friend who was going to Grad school at UCLA – I too became a Calif. girl. After two classes at UCLA, I switched my major and completed my Master’s Degree in Special Education at “that other school”- USC! I lived in Rolling Hills Estates for 24 years but now I’m single in Redondo Beach.
Travel- I’ve backpacked thru most of Europe, then returned to go 1st class with my husband on business trips to England, Germany, and Monte Carlo. I’ve been on a Greek Cruise, Carribean Cruise , honeymooned in Tahiti and had lots of fun at a couple of Club Meds in Mexico. Oh, and I participated in the Educators to Japan program (when my boys were little so I know the prep work needed for Moms in the group).
I still can’t believe I am actually packing for a trip to China! I’m looking forward to our exciting adventure. Stop by and say hi – seat location to be announced at a later date!
I have passed a clipboard around my classroom where kids can list any questions they have or want me to answer. They are so jazzed and so am I. I am hoping to come back with all the answers but their interest and curiosity is inspiring!
I think the gold busts are definitely a must. Why didn't I think of that? Mine are just in bronze (all 180 of them). Louis, since you're packing light, I knew you wouldn't mind helping to carry all of them.
Clay, do we need to bring something to "wrap" our peer gifts in for presentation, or is it okay just to hand them a t-shirt with our thanks?
Malynn
We are compressing months of preparation into weeks. I need to get everyone to complete a liability waiver form PRIOR to letting you board the plane. Please download the attached form. Read it (2 pages of worst case scenarios) and, assuming you do agree to do so, sign and initial where indicated.
-- If you can, fax the form to us on Tuesday: LINDA TRUONG 310-206-3555.
-- If you can't fax the form to us, bring it on Wednesday morning. I'll return your passport when you give me the completed form.
Sorry for the last minute rush on this.
It is increasingly the norm to wrap gifts, but in this instance where we're giving local treasures, it is not essential.
I've got some mesh hats that say PV. Our art teacher always wears one. 12 of them.
Hi- So far Lunada Bay teachers have bookmarks, letters and cards, candy (Lifesavers),and 2 school yearbooks signed by kids. It doesn't sound real exciting compared to some of the gifts - especially the solid gold busts!
Clay - I printed out the Waiver form so the Lunada Bay girls can fax them in. Also, I just called the Airlines and they had seat assignments for the Beijing part of the trip. Hooray - we're getting closer! See you bright and early tomorrow morning. Bev Smith
I have purchased 4 Peninsula books for our group gifts as per Clayton's suggestion. Can someone volunteer to help carry them? They are so heavy altogether. I will take one if three volunteers don't mind carrying the others. With tax and my teacher discount it came to $130.00 divided by 17 would be $8.00 each. Hope that works for everyone. Looking forward to our departure tomorrow!!!!
Sincerely,
Denise
