    Hi Everyone,

It was great meeting all of you on Sunday! Just a reminder of some of the things we covered during orientation. These tips will help ensure you have a better trip.

    THINGS TO BRING

•Lightweight clothing (that you don’t necessarily need to iron)
women: we suggest skirts and dresses for convenience
men: we suggest khaki shorts or lightweight breathable pants
    •Travel laundry detergent
•VERY comfortable walking shoes (if you can walk all day in flip flops, this is fine)
•One fairly presentable outfit – high heels or patent leather shoes are not necessary
    •A sweater for heavily air-conditioned buildings/buses
    •Sunblock
    •Sunglasses
•Hat or umbrella for sun protection
    •Travel tissue or toilet paper
    •Hand sanitizer
    •Insect repellant
•Any prescription medications you use and enough to last the entire trip
•Any over-the-counter medications (cold, flu, Imodium, allergies, etc.) you prefer as the brands you are used to may not necessarily be available for purchase in China or Taiwan
•Women: bring your own feminine products
•Contact lens solution for the duration of the trip
•Shampoo/soap/conditioner – there may be a few hotels that may not supply these so bring a travel sized supply
•Hairdryer – if you absolutely need one – some hotels may not have these, so you might want to bring a small travel sized one from home

    WHAT NOT TO BRING

•Halter tops, tube tops, sheer tops, etc – unless you plan on putting a sweater on over it
    •Daisy dukes and mini-skirts
    •Shirts with controversial logos/slogans/pictures
•Avoid denim – it gets hot and doesn’t dry fast enough
•Too much luggage! You will need to carry your own luggage wherever we go
Please note: If there is a baggage check fee anywhere we travel, you will be responsible for paying the fee.

    Best wishes,
    Venus

Thank you Venus for posting this. This is going to be extremely helpful. I will begin getting ready slowly and have my sister double check my list. I tend to always forget something and can't risk that happening this time.

Sidenote- No Starbucks might be difficult

I am taking about 25 pencils with the school's name. I did not have time to have my students work on something. Packing and moving classrooms took up a lot of time.

I went to Barnes and Nobles for books, but their selection was minimal. Amazon was a better option. I ordered the following books:

The California Gold Rush: An Interactive History Adventure

California Missions Coloring Book

California Missions Guide
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1489574220?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

California:Portrait of a State (Hardcover) - If this one is too heavy, I will have to be careful with packing and prioritize.

I'm bringing some lanyards from my school, bookmarks my students made, and 2 t-shirts from my school. I have a really good book called Latinos in California...a different cultural perspective maybe?

I have two books and I'm trying to decide between the two.

1. Mondon, Karl (2013). California, Then and Now: People and Places. This is a small, but heavier picture book that has illustrations from what California cities look like in the past and what they look like today.
2. Starr, Kevin (2007). California: A History. Kevin Starr is one of California's leading historians who has contributed to many of the archive collections. An excellent book, but it doesn't have the colorful pictures.
3. American West: Dutch Oven Cooking (2000). This book I acquire while at the AP Reading the past few weeks in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is thin and light weight and includes a number of what look to be delicious Western recipes.

**If I have the space, I will try to bring both of the books on California.Cool

Also bringing: Student made bookmarks and posters from our performing arts productions since we are an Arts Magnet; San Diego/CA Key Rings.
