This is a little extra survey project that a few of us are doing who missed the introductory session to this course. We will be posting the results on the web.

I like the idea of a spreadsheet. I think it would also be nice to have response percentages for all respondents combined. Is that possible with the spreadsheet?
My surveys are starting to come back in and one so far includes comments. Could we put together a "Comments" section for the presentation?

Hi--I spoke with someone last Saturday who said that he would e-mail the survey questions that had been decided on at the meeting before class. I had not known about the meeting and so hadn't attended. Are these question posted somewhere on this site that I haven't found yet? This message seems to say they are posted here??? Thanks for any response on this. I'd like to get this finished soon.// Linda Sutton [email protected]
Hi Linda -
Are you in the Survey Group? It's for students who did not attend the first lecture in the E. Asia series and need to make up the time. We are conducting a brief survey of various populations to learn their attitudes and beliefs about E. Asia.
If you are in the Survey Group, look to the attachment to my posting above for a copy of the survey (East Asia Survey.doc). If you are not in the Survey Group, there's nothing you need to do. We're surveying outside sources and will be presenting the data to the class.
Thanks for checking in,
Catherine Majkut

I'm attaching an Excel spreadsheet with my survey data from Administrator/Out-of-class personnel. You could download the file and print it out, and then fill in your data. OR, if you want to be ambitious, download the file, put in your data, and upload the updated file. We're getting there!

For some reason this program won't let me upload the file. I will bring copies of my survey results to tomorrow's class.
See you then.

I will bring a hard copy of my survey results to class tomorrow. Here are some comments from respondents that would be good to include:
With regard to question #3
"Some of these countries, namely South Korea, seem to be completely in the pocket of the United States. I wish they would be less subservient to US policy."
"If I had a choice of being more specific for question 3, I would speak to my reservations about the Chinese Gov. human rights issues in China and the Chinese stance on Taiwan which I also disagree with."
Catherine
I just sent two attachments to all of you:
1) results (except for one person's) of our Survey.
2) results in "chart" from in a PowerPoint presentation.
We still have time to tighten it up, but most of it is done.
We are lucky to have you on our team. We appreciate all your work. The power point presentation looks very professional. The charts are impressive. Thanks!
I agree with Magda. Ed, thanks for your work on the survey result presentation. It looks great!
How shall we inform the class of our results? Perhaps we could provide print-outs for the next class meeting in addition to the on-line posting.

Were we planning on the power point presentation? If so, I believe that this and on-line posting should sufice.
The only problem w/ online posting is this bulletin board doesn't seem to be able to accept Excel files (those w/ a .xls ending). I can put together a hard copy to hand out, but doubt that I can get it done for this Tuesday's class (we're still lacking one person't data).
I don't think we have to do a Powerpoint presentation. I just put that together because I wanted to play.
Ed, sorry, I assumed you would like to do a powerpoint presentation-it looks great but ofcourse it does require extra time that we are lacking. For next Tueaday, we can present orally and then take questions. It should spark a good dialogue.
I vote for presenting to the class once we have the missing persons's data and hard copies ready for handouts. It's nice to have visuals when refering to stats. We still have three classes left including a marathon Saturday on the 12th, so we have plenty of time for presenting.
Ed, let me know if you need help getting together the handouts.
