    Curriculum project

Design a series of lessons to be used in one of the courses you teach

    1.    A rationale for the proposed unit

This class will combine with language learning, culture learning, and designing. The main contents will close to Architecture history and Design Thinking. Students above 12 years old can learn this unit with me. I will put the lesson unit into my science teaching class. Students need to know the basic history of some Chinese cities. They also have big pictures of China and Korea. They also need website searching skills and essential math skills, like calculation and measurement. Some of them need to draw maps, so they also need the drawing skill before attending this unit.

    2.    Skill and content objectives

Students will get the idea of East Asia cities. They will learn essential design thinking. They will follow the framework with Feel, Imagine, Do, and Share. Their knowledge of East Asia culture will also be improved.

    3.    Detailed lesson plan

Include specific lesson objectives, class, and individual activities, and materials to be used. Provide discussion-launching questions, questions to guide reading, and other procedural tips. Include copies of textbook readings, draft handouts, or other materials. Be sure to provide complete citations for the materials you include.

    Lesson 1

Lesson objectives: Learn the history of Urban cities: Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul.

Activities: I will prepare some familiar words from those cities. Students will guess the city’s name. They will also discuss in groups which city they like most. Explain why.

Materials to be used: PowerPoints, Videos, papers, pencils

    Class 90mins:

    1. They need to learn about the history of Urban cities in East Asia. They also need to get the background of colonization.

    1. Students will guess the city’s name. They will also discuss in groups which city they like most. Explain why.

    1. After they finish learning these activities, they need to summarize their knowledge of those cities.

    Lesson 2

Lesson objectives: Learn the historical environment problems of Seoul and how they solved those problems

Activities: I will divide them into groups. They will do research in the class by using the laptops. They need to know how to work efficiently for the group task.

Materials to be used: PowerPoints, Videos, papers, pencils, laptops

    Class 90mins:

    a. I will give them a model city like Seoul, to show them what were the environmental problems in history, and how did they conquer those issues.

b.I will ask them to do a survey of how big cities in China looks like; they need to do the searches online and give me the issues of those cities.

    1. After they finish the surveys, they need to summarize what are the environmental problems that China has.

Homework: They need to find solutions to deal with those environmental problems. Each group requires to give a feasible ecological plan.

    Lesson 3

Lesson objectives: Students’ environmental plan homework

Activities: They will present their homework in the class. They also need to grade other groups' homework.

Materials to be used: PowerPoints, Videos, papers, pencils, laptops

    Class 90mins:

    a. Students of each group need to show their solutions for the cities in China. Each group will have 10 mins demo.

b.After the demo, other groups can ask questions about those solutions. Based on the criteria of feasibility, they need to grade each group.

    c. After they give me the designing plans, they also need to criticize all the sustainable projects in the class to see the problems we have to deal with immediately, and the issues that we cannot solve for many years. Then they can have an open mind thinking of how to protect our environment.

    4.    A plan for assessing student achievement

I can access their achievement through the last section of each class, which summarizes the topic. Moreover, based on the survey and their solutions, I can assess if they did a good job or not. I will collect those data to check their understandings.
