The Tang Center for Silk Road Studies website ( http://ieas.berkeley.edu/tcsrs/ ), run out of UC Berkeley is a good resource for teachers that are looking for ideas on teaching about the "Silk Road," but more specifically resource on the Mogao Cave, which are located in Dunhuang, China. Because the topics are geared on the caves teachers will find excellent lessons on Buddhism and visual arts. The website has links to other universities that focus on Central Asia and the Silk Road.
This website is good for Middle School teachers that either teach ancient up to late-Imperial Chinese history. The lessons are quite good and practical to use in the classes. Also, the website includes lessons for elementary and high school teacher. There are science, art, math, humanities and social studies based lessons. Just click on the "K-12 Connections" link that takes you to the page for teacher resource.
In addition, to being a resource for teachers it also has a section for those educators that are interesting in visiting China during the summer. I am not sure when applications are posted but if you check regularly and are really interested I am sure that you will be able to acquire the application. Applications are usually due before the end of December, and if you are one of the lucky to be chosen then you get to go to China for a month, visiting museums, schools, historical sites and local restaurants. This will definitively make you a better-rounded teacher and definitively give you more tools to be able to teach about China, and allow students to get a better understanding of this important civilization.
