For this class I did some research for one of Clayton’s extra questions which asked us to look for unique ukiyo-e prints such as children playing, modernization and more. I wanted to do a little bit more research in a easy format that was quick to understand and summarized the information I needed in a easy to read format.
I came across Wanamour which appears to be an educational blood site that is geared at targeting a younger crowd with a more visual pleasing format. Which is basically simple paragraphs, white background without multiple distractions, and plenty of photos breaking up the reading. The website is organized fairly easily once you navigate to the link I have attached. It starts with a quick description of what Ukiyo-e Art is, why it became popular, and lastly the sub genres of the art form. This explains the versatility of the prints and even the sub genre seen coming out of Europe. It explain that artists in Europe where inspired that they began to create their own renditions as well as incorporate it into their own artworks. It also provides information on famous artists such as Hokusai and some of their work to view. I think this could be an appropriate grade level read for many students, i imagine best for 6-12 but you could provide excerpts from the blog for grades 4-5.
