I reviewed the work of Liza Dalby, at lizadalby.com. It was here that I thought about my students creating their own haikus and scrolls for the classroom. I would have my students in my Advisory class make their own personal scroll at the beginning of the year. What was most helpful about her website was links to the many books that she has written about different time periods and the culture of East Asia. She is a particularly interesting women because of the work she did for her PhD in spending time with geishas and studying the culture of women in Japan. I found this website to be a bit outdated and less than thorough but it was definitely inspiring to other areas of research.
