This website is an amazing resource especially for the video production program in offering a plethora of film resources to broaden the scope of discussions about media depictions, representations and identity. As an instructor at Dorsey high school I have no Asian students and most of my students come from black and Hispanic cultures. Infusing the curriculum with Asian culture, topics and politics provides a neutral ground for discussion. Watching the films allows me to bring different cultures into the classroom that my students would not normally access and thus allows me to broaden their social and cultural awareness outside of their own realities.
As a Resource Specialist Teacher, I chose to view a site that my students with Learning Disabilities can access with interest and ease.

The KW website is designed especially for kids in primary and secondary schools. The information given for Asian Culture and traditions is very kid friendly and comprehendible for students in grades 2-6. The site begins with a brief definition of “heritage” and important holidays in the Asian culture. Students have access to click on certain topics to gain more information about that specific topic. This website can be used with students who are doing research on a specific element of the Asian culture. They can definitely gain the knowledge they need from this site.
A website I can use with my students is http://www.allkpop.com, which is an East Asian pop-culture news/tabloid website. Everyday, there are new articles written about the breaking news of kpop groups as well as other celebrities like comedians and actors. Most of the celebrities on this site are Korean, but there are also artists of Asian descent (mainly Chinese) that appear in their articles. It would be interesting to examine this website to understand the Kpop culture and scene that's rooted in Korea, but reaches all parts of the world. Much of the appearance, lyrics, aesthetic, and general culture of Kpop is purposefully manufactured by the CEOs of various music companies. It would be interesting to analyze the images and values Kpop culture is putting forth. How do Kpop artists follow or reject gender norms of their country, and how can we compare the gender constructs to those of America? One interesting detail I noticed is that Korean celebs always describe the time and arduous effort they are putting into their work. They "brag" by saying they work 18 hour days, lose sleep, and have to go to the hospital to receive Vitamin shots. Why do they reveal this when American celebs. do not? It would be very interesting to compare the pop cultures of East Asia to that of America. What do pop icons reveal about their country's values, norms, and traditions?
History Grows everyday, we tend to forget this based on the way we behave towards each other and ourselves. As a get consumed with what is happening in our country, it is necessary to have a different perspective to what is happening around us. The website, sdmc.com is a great perspective to what is happening around us. it is a current event website that gives perspective to the daily topic that we also face in our country. It is interesting to read on how others the same topic that is affecting America, topics like North Korea and how their point of view.
Website Review
I chose the South China Morning Post Online Website to review. http://www.scmp.com/. This site has many useful articles that span a variety of topics. One of the articles I read, dealt with women and mapping the different regions and the birthrates coming from these different areas. This is an article I can use with my Work Skills class when we are talking about the gender roles of men and women in the workforce, especially after they have children. This could take students in the direction of childcare, education, maternity and family leave practices, etc.
This site also had current events in other areas including politics and entertainment. The articles on politics could be used as writing prompts in English or Social Studies classes, as the United States is bringing in a new President and how that will effect China. What are China’s concerns and fears as President Elect Trump takes office? How will this effect China’s economy and relationship with the United States? There were articles about art, entertainment, employment, business, technology, culture, and a few other areas.
This website was user friendly and something that my students would be able to use independently. There are so many ways to incorporate this site into lesson plans including, current events, writing prompts, compare and contrast, and the lists goes on. One of the ways I would like to use this is through presentations. I could divide the students into groups and have them present a section that they learned about to their peers.
