Hi Everyone,
My name is Betty Laureano, I work at Garfield High School located in East Los Angeles. I work with students from 9-12 grade. I have been with LAUSD for about 20 years. I started as a teacher assistant back in 1998. A couple of years after, I became a substitute teacher. A long-term substitute. After being a long-term substitute in the Mathematics Department, I became a highly qualify Mathematics Teacher. I was riffed in 2015; therefore I then decided to teach special education. I taught an Autism Core classes for two years. This school year I have a new position. I’m back in mathematic classes as a Resources Specialist Provider (RSP Teacher).
I’m excited to take this class because two years ago Garfield elected some teachers to visit a sister school in China. Among those teachers I was elected and privileged to visit Beijing, China. Although my trip felt short my experience was truly amazing. I brought some knowledge to share with my students and family. I am excited to announce visiting China made a great impact to my life that I will be traveling back to China with my family this upcoming June 2018. Taking this course will not only help me share knowledge with my students, but help me make connections and have better understandings when I visit China this June.
Sorry for the very late post. I recently purchased a home and have been trying to settle in. Believe it or not I don’t know how my family and I survive not having access at home to Internet until just recently. Therefore I have a lot to catch up on my posts. I tried to post at work but unfortunately I have been overwhelmed with many IEP’s I had to prepare and held meetings for. Please bear with me. Thank you, take care, and see you all soon.
