  • In reading some articles about journalism in China, what stood out to me the most would be how limited journalists are in reporting and the risks they are taking just doing their jobs. My first thought is why would soemone even take that risk. One of the journalist in the articles stated that you must be ready to just pick and go if needed which he eventually did. The way he described his family needing to relocate to Austrailia and leaving family and friends behind is so dissapointing. There is also a high conviction rate for people that China places under arrest, so the chances of the high-profile jounalist who was arrested will most likley be convicted. My heart truly goes out to her two children who have limited communication with her. In class, I can see how this discussion/debate of doing ones job,in this case journalism, is worth it in the end knowing the consequences that may result.

I have to admit that much of the information that was presented was new to me. I was aware that China is a powerful country but was unaware of the negative perceptions attached to it. In taking this course, I'm excited to learn more about the history of China and extend my knowledge about its' people and their culture. And even though there are obvious politcal differences we can learn from each other as development in China continues to progress. As far as the classroom, learning about China's past will help me with understanding how to approach lesson plans that I would use with my students today.

My favorite set of stamps are the Hong Kong stamps. They are very colorful and that is what appealed to me the most. I see some similarites between the art of the Hong Kong stamp and papel picado from Mexico in the sense that the colors pop. That is what definitely appealed to me. I also notcied that the rabbit on each stamp has different versions and beautiful flowers on each design. Love them!

    Hello Everyone,

I'm a kindergarten teacher at a primary center in the San Fernando Valley! I'm really excited to participate in these seminars to learn more about the culture. I'm a life-long learner and in turn hope my students develop such a love for learning as well.In my classroom, I especially enjoy the work in helping others find success.  I want my students to experience meaningful yet challenging learning in which they can make connections and apply it to their lives.  Year after year, one of my goals in teaching children is to ingrain in them a love for acquiring knowledge. This develops their desire to question and appreciate the world around her or him. I motivate and encourage all my students to learn about the world in which they live in and that includes learning about different cultures. It is important for myself to pursue opportunities that will be benficial to my students' learning.
