    Wolf Warrior Film Review

     

    The film featured a team of Chinese Special Forces who take place in a drug bust.  The main character assassinates the head of this operation, which is the younger brother of a man of power who leads a pharmaceutical company and is planning to implement pharmaceutical warfare amongst the people.  There is a simultaneous hunt for the main character as her fights in his new wolf warrior pack and is fighting to save his life from a hit that has been placed on him. 

    This film does incorporate a lot of blood and death so I’m not sure if showing this to my younger group would be appropriate, however I did like the fact that I had subtitles which is essential to tracking when reading though they did move across the screen pretty fast.  For a higher secondary group this could be beneficial to show and relate to and explain the war tactics that are used.

    The Rise of East Asia: East Asia Since 1800 has been very informative and education for my perspective as an educator that wants to create global learners.  I plan to incorporate my learning, resources, and findings into my teaching frequently.  Many of the topics addressed will be beneficial to students in assisting in the development their growth and worldviews mindset. As I reflect I continue to come up with more ideas in terms of incorporating what I have experienced.

     

    I plan to incorporate East Asia into my teaching in multiple ways.  There were so many concepts that I learned and working with students who are reading at a low level I can take larger concepts and apply them to their regular curriculum.  For example, for the culminating task and project I have used “Lost Names” by Richard E. Kim to teach story elements.  This exposes the students to the East Asian experience, values, and content.  There are various other resources that I plan to incorporate to teach the simple strategies that my intervention students are lacking.

     

    Possible topics that I will address include the attitudes and approaches that work to align with topics I need to cover within the curriculum.  For example, I can cover information about geographical placement when we come across reading in the program that shares commonalities.  I plan to use many of the oral stories, literature pieces along with, slides that show art and photos to support important concepts.

     

    The ideas and content that is of most relevance to my course would be the portions that tied into actual readings and recorded literature.  The historical information would be great to provide background knowledge.  In fact, by reading what my fellow classmates have posted in the forum as well as the many other post I am sure that I will have an endless supply and content to continue to inform my students of East Asia and look forward to future institutes where I can expand my knowledge and bring the information back to my students and colleagues.

    There have been numerous films that I have watched for the purpouse of this institute.  I did get carried away and it lead to me finding a major interest in Asian films.  over he seminar I have watched the fillowing: 

    1. Wolf Warior

    2. IP Man ( i plan on watching all of these with my son as he enjoyed teh first on with me)

    3. Bank Attack (which was commical)

    4. Falling Flowers

    That is so awesime that the younger students will have you to introduce this material to them making them global learners.  i really beleive that we as educators need to move into the realm of making our students aware of the world around us at an earlier age.  My son is five years old and ask many questions.  this has sparked an interest for him as he now wants to attend more museums.  Also rememeber he glasses that we received during ne of the seminars. Well, he had a lot of questions and i was ble to actually explain it to him.  This has been an amazing gift and I think that I will attend the other portion because knowledge is power and i am simply trying to speard as much as the knowledge and power as possible into the students that we teach.

    Upon my return to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art I visited and looked at the art in the Pavilion for Japanese Art. A piece that really stood out to me was the pair of scared monkeys.  These monkeys are from Japan, and the late Heian period between (794-1185).  The monkey served as deity and was worshiped as Gods.  These particular monkeys say outside of the Hie Shinto shrine.  The reason why this was of so much interest to me is because I like to study the religion and deities from other cultures.  It is interesting to gain background knowledge on various cultures and the reasoning behind why they worshiped certain animals.  I also try to align the purpose of certain deities together to show the similarities in systems of belief. Surprisingly, I have been able to track the purpose of many demi gods to many of the saints in catholic religion and as I continue to make varying connections it becomes more and more exciting.

    Being that I am an alumni of California State university Long Beach, I have had the pleasure of experiencing the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden many times..  This last time was the same week the seminars started. I personally used the garden a lot during my time at CSULB to go relax and study as it mimics and has the elements of a Japanese garden.  It feels like you are in a different country in this calm environment and cause you to forget that you are in the city.  The garden is 1.3 acres and includes a pond, teahouse, and zin garden.  The designer of the gardens visited Japan and Tokyo to get the appropriate designs.  It was a trip that created something amazing and design elements and import shops that helped with the designs.   The research and study that was conducted but allowed the garden to be constructed with a quiet feel.  I was dedicated to earl Miller was a lover of the outdoors and created in 1981.  The garden itself is very peaceful and I plan of frequently continuing to support my school and the garden by visiting and assuring that as alumni I continue to support such a beautiful garden.  I also encourage educators to visit that need a relief from a busy week and or day.

    On November 27th my son and myself visited the Art of Korea Exhibit at the Los Angels County Museum of Arts.  This was actually my first time visiting this particular exhibit that holds art from Korea that was collected starting in the mid 1960s.  I learned that the museum hold over 400 pieces of art including art from the Goryeo dynast and Joseon dynasty which I remember being mentioned in the seminar.  Many of the pieces are also from donors that wanted to contribute to the museums collection.  However, the greatest amount of art work comes from the Joseon dynasty. One of the pieces that stood out to me aesthetically was the, “Memorial on Going into Battle by Zhuge Liang (181-234) originally transcribed by Yue Fei in 1138.  Yue Fei was a Chinese general famous for his defense of the Sothern song dynasty.  This piece of work was and is supposed to be a transcription as to why he believed that it was necessary to go to war, and for its advice on how to govern best.

     

    Visisting The Art of Korea would be amazing to get a firsthand experience in the various arts created in Korea.  The level of crativity taht goes into art is someting that always motivates me and would serve as a great experience for my students

    In regards to the seminars I simply wanted To say that this has made a really enlightening experience.  I am glad that the university offers in this institute to teachers Because of everything that we have covered I have a learned and experienced so much about the Chinese culture And about south east Asia.  I'm excited to possibly get an opportunity To participate in another seminar covering other areas of this region.  The information has been extremely detailed and I have received a plethora of resources Then I will be able to use and incorporate into my lessons with my students.  So my students are intervention students do feel that some of the Information provided Can't replace some of the informational text that we already use.  In addition to that, I plan on incorporating so many of the belief systems that I have read about into my motivation strategies that I use with my students.  I want to continue to use the materials that I have gained access to bring awareness to others about other cultures.  I believe that by doing so I am giving my students the best opportunity to become global leaders and fighters, who fight for what is right regardless of where they are in the world.  I also strive for my students to simply have cultural and historical awareness

    Ultimately I believe this has been my belief that China has always had confusion because of his multiple systems and because of the multiple conflicts that occur.  The problem lies with the struggle for power between the various groups and parties.  In turn the people who reside in these regions are affected by the mass confusion.  To me I can't understand nor conceptualize having one China with two different systems.  I believe that this would cause confusion as it currently does due to the country being divided.  I believe that what's best is one government system one economic system and one financial affairs system.  I cannot imagine the United States having multiple governmental systems economic systems financial affairs system while another part of the United States simply did something other than what the masses and the rest of the country are doing.  I believe that ultimately wanted system brings people together and help them collaboratively become better.

    After listening to Lenora Chu on China's Education System, I must say that I agree with the information she provides.  From my understanding China’s education system has always been one of the leading models for education across the world.  Is not a mystical fact that children who are from China are considered to be more educated than children in the United States of America.  It is also understood that the educational system in China is more structured and strict than that of United States.  I too have read articles about the Chinese education system.   These articles are either extremely heightened in a sense to promote the idea that Chinese education is a better are promoted in a way that is negative in a sense due to their system being so hard and strict.  All in all would seems to drive the Chinese educational system is obedience.  From my understanding, two articles and research, I understand that children are shamed for not performing highly.  Being an educator in the United States, in California, I have had conversations with my students in regards to if they prefer a teacher that is strict. Students often explain then if they had a teacher who was strict structured and organize they feel that they would be more successful. This leads me to question if are teaching strategies and practices in California do not meet the needs of our society where we are free to do, act, and perform while still receiving promotion.

    I also have experience with and love photography.  I did not know that Kodak film was the individual that started the newspaper. This just goes to show how innovative we are as humans in general.  This also served as a serious fun fact for me and how individuals can have other intention to make public what the masses do not know.  This actually makes me want to model how things change over time and research the longevity of how technology has changed and how the company is actually dong now that companies such as apple, Samsung, and other cell phone companies since digital technology has come to the forefront of the 21st century.  This can be used to teach students about the change process and how all things eventually evolve or change over time.  I would have the students’ research and write an objective summary about the company after teaching them the additional information that I have obtained in relation to their influential skills through mass media in their country.

    I enjoyed the reading that provided the oral histories and firsthand experiences of oral histories Collected in Houhua Village.  Importance of world history and its importance and education are often learned through oral histories and experiences of individuals that were actually present during that particular time.  The students that I work with actually do not have extensive knowledge with primary and secondary source.  This would be a great piece of literature to use along side other materials to teach primary and secondary sources.  In addition, I always vouch for the fact that oral history provides opportunity for human interaction and the human experience that one may never experience.  This knowledge can be extremely beneficial for all parties that are able to encounter oral histories of individuals who do not appear in historical records.  Along side of the experience of the human interaction this reading allowed me to learn new information that I would not other wise receive.

    I recently attended a professional development don’t with getting students to a point of relaxation post lunch any major school event.  Along side this I have a heavy background in research with school wide positive behavior intervention support strategies and strategy implementation at various school sites.  After reading te literature, ESSENTIALS OF THE NEW LIFE MOVEMENT ” (SPEECH, 1934) By Chiang Kai – shek, I have decided that I would use the principle in community building circles to build capacity in terms of our schools School wide Learning Outcomes. Li means
“regulated
-attitude.” Yi
means
“right
-conduct.” Lian 
means
“clear -
discrimination.” Chi means
“real
self‑consciousness.”  All of these concepts are concepts that can be implemented and embarrassed to create better student out comes in terms of school culture.  The key to this would also being able to provide the background knowledge that we receive in the seminars to make the information relevant while giving credit to its creator.  I have gained so many ideas in how even the most simple portions of this culture is relevant to all of our student progression and accomplishments.

    The cartoons that represent anti United States are disheartening because these are really depictions of how people felt and what was really going on politically.  Something that stands out to me is the ideas that the media also serves as a catalyst to what people believe and serves as a representations as to what is actually going n in the world.  I teach a unit I summer school tat deals with freedom of speech and the media.  Teaching this unit I typically use cartoons like this to begin getting the students to understand how media affects ones belief system or systems.  This generally gets them very interested in what I going on in the media in the United States but this would allow me to expand their thought pattern to historical political issues that are affecting not just other countries, but that also show us how we are seen in the light of other nations.

    In Sun Yat-sen, “Fundamentals of National Reconstruction” three principles are discussed and I can agree with a few.  I continue to gain insight and an extreme joy for what I am gaining trough participating in these seminars.  Principle one deals with a push to maintain independence in the family of nations.  I believe that this is important to maintain culture while falling into a melting pot or hat is considered to be the norm.  Continuing to identify as an individual nation while assuring the best for the people of that nation, region, or culture would be lost in the mix of what others try to make hem become accustomed to. The second principle is the principle for democracy.  I agree with tis because I believe that a mass group of people needs some sort of guidance to have order or there will be chaos.  Last is the principle of livelihood where the people of the nation need to merge livelihood with nationalism in order to succeed in economics and cohesively to move the nation towards success.
