I wanted to add an interesting fact about the a spooky/ haunted forest in Japan. It is called th Aokigahara Forest at the base of Mount Fuji. It is known that in the past, when an elderly is sick, you take them to the Aokigahra Forest and leave them there to die. It is also known as Suicide Forest, and people will go in there to hang themselves. It is open to the public to go hiking and or camping, but there are officials who are on standby who do check on campers, because it is known that campers go there to contemplate their death. There are even signs posted at the enterance that warn them or try to have the vistor think about the value of their lives.

I have also heard that in Korea, there is a growing number of suicides among the elderly due to senior poverty. And with Korea's obession with youth and beauty, employers are not willing to hire older workers. And with many young Korean's ditching the Confucian traditions of taking care of the elderly, the senior citizens are feeling the cold abandonment.

With the rising number of workers in the industrial revolution, there is a need for transportation, housing, food, that drove the US to invest in infrastructure. But there was also a growing popularity with unions that were fighting for higher wages that probably helped increase the US GDP.

Because I am a school counselor, I don't get to teach on academic subjects. However, I am a big promoter of being a global citizen. I think we need to learn how to take care of the earth and living in America's abundance, we sometimes lose sight and can become wasteful.

As for discussing the aging population, we can always talk about how we appreciate our grandpaterns and learn from their lives. I think being in the US, the challenge is that the culture is more individualistic more than family oreinted. I wish there was a shift in American culture to not be as selfish and know what it means to be in a group dynamic like other cultures on the world.

    Hi! My name is Donna.

    I am a School Counselor for 4th, 5th, and 9th graders.

I guess my complaint for this year is that I want to go back onto campus! Being an extrovert, I really enjoy being around people so this is a bit hard. What has been helping is my daily run. Getting that fresh air and being able to wave at neighbors is such a life saver for me at this point.

Pre-COVID hobbies I had were meeting up with freinds! I love hosting parties or simply hanging out. I also love lifting barbells, but since the gyms are closed, it really is taking a toll. But I found running, hiking, and camping. But with the fires, you really have to stay indoors. So yes, this time period is pretty difficult for me, but I am taking it as time to get my salary points done. After this semester I only have one more to go. I am pretty excited!

Newly discovered quarantine talents are reading and learning Spanish on whatever free apps I can get my hands on.
