Apparently Tainan is THE foodie place to be at in Taiwan and has a famous night market/food hall scene. Definitely going to bring the cash and camera phone! Also, I came across a Taiwanese baseball schedule - just in case we come across a game while we are in one of the towns. http://www.cpblenglish.com/p/schedule.html

I can't find anybody that will print out passport photos the size that China would like. I spoke with a couple of people that went on previous NCTA trips and was told to send in standard passport photos. Anybody else having luck? I went to about 10 places today and made phone calls to some other places and pretty much that they aren't allowed to cut these photos with a different size.

I know that China has their own social networks but do you know if What's Ap or Skype are allowed? Those are my go to when I use free wi-fi for contacts

Where/what did you work on while in Guatemala? I absolutely love that country and wish that it had a higher profile. I lived there for a few months. Hope you enjoy Yosemite

I'm thinking about backpacking across Thailand and Cambodia- any suggestions on a 2-3 week trip?

Perhaps you can schedule some pre/post activities in Monterey Park? I have taken kids to all kinds of field trips - usually I get people to pay for the bus and all, but takes them out of the community and seemingly into a whole new world.

Is the focus on contemporary World Studies or Ancient Civ?

I teach Modern World Cultures - most of the country does Ancient Civ for 6th grade. One of the things I'm playing with is using food as culture. I currently have the students research various countries and we invite the community to the school 2x a year for these presentations. I'm thinking about doing: geography, culture, and history through food based on the regions that we go to. We would examine various maps, climate, resources, agriculture and more. I would find videos, make videos, bring menus and pictures - for this unit and integrate history as waves and waves of cultural diffusion came to China and how China spread as well.

Good evening, my name is Gabriel Valdez and I currently teach in Fort Worth, Texas by way of Southern California. I have traveled and worked all over the world since leaving California and I’m excited to be part of this teacher tour group to China and Taiwan. I do have experience with teacher travel and have been on several trips. Most of my travel as of late has been to the Middle East and Latin America. I’m currently teaching Modern World Cultures as well as social studies professional development. Aside from travel and Instagram – I love sports and the outdoors and consider myself somewhat of a foodie and can’t wait to hit up some street food in China and Taiwan. I don’t have any pictures saved on my district laptop but if you are curious about me- you can find me on Instagram @travelexplorelearn.

Nice to virtually meet everyone – I won’t be able to make it to the meeting in person tomorrow.
