I found it extremely interesting how King T'aejo married a total of 29 wives to create important relationships. This demonstrated possibly the want and need of power and control this period felt. I belive this has been a typical strategy amoung different historical periods. (Not necessarily marrying 29 wives but marrying for convenience, such as arranged marriages.)
I found these videos and readings very informative and I learned new things about Japan. I am looking forward to our session in order to gain more knowledge. I remember taking a course in college about early Japanese art and it was nice to revisit. I have also found it interesting that historically women did not write their names on the literature they created.
After learning about the four Schools of Thought I am interested in learning more. What struck out to be the most was the fact that these four schools can indeed work together. In Confucianism, they belive in working hard in order to learn new things. I belive this still influences our world today with people wanting to acquire higher learning in order to become more knowledgable. The two branches of Confucianism seem to focus on becoming a better person, despite if that human was born "good" or "bad".
I thought it was so interesting that China, Japan and South Korea all had food as a large expense, in comparison to The United States. This might be because of their water supply shortage. This would be a very interesting topic to discuss with young students in relation to being conscientious about water usage. We are definitley very lucky to have a good system in place however, we should not over use or misuse our water. I would definitley ask my students whether they have acess to clean water in their home and what they would do if the didn't.
