I'm also curious about Shinto traditions.
Thanks for your information! I know the Tang dynasty influenced many countries in Asia, especially Japan. But I don't know if there were still some influences after Tang Dynasty. For example, Zen which influenced by the Song dynasty. I searched online and found that the art of Song Dynasty Ceramics also influenced Japan. So I believe the historical connection and influence between Japan and China were much beyond our understanding.
Yes, lots of young Chinese people are not willing to get marriage. They do not want have any babies as well.
I have the same feelings as you that Chinese Philosophy to be so interesting.
The Great Wall of China is a topic that I may use some stories to teach my students
Thanks for sharing!
I'd like to know more about Guanyin. Nowadays, Guanyin is typically a female figure. I didn't realize that Guanyin was originally from Indian prince. The figure of Guanyin is in some traditional TV dramas, and she always does good things for people. For example, if a married woman wants to have a baby, she will go to Guanyin Temple and beg for a child.
I still remember a famous Chinese Drama,”The Legend of White Snake” that shows how people went to Guanyin temple and asked for help from Guanyin. https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1rq4y197rp/?spm_id_from=333.788.recommend_more_video.0
This video shows the very traditional Buddhism ritual in China.
Additionally, I didn't realize that Virgin Mary and Guanyin have some similarities. But in China, we have another Godness called Mazu, originally from the Song dynasty. She is a goddess for the ocean.
That's a very interesting topic! I may use Moon poetry as well. There is another moon poetry called in the silence of Night. I will use both of them for my teaching
japanese literature is somehow far from my learning understanding. I know some folk stories from Japanese Cartoons.
I like the styles of teaching East Asia from USC. I can play those lectures' recording for many times and pause them if I need to do some search. The zoom meeting for discussion are also very useful and helpful.
I plan to do the introduction of Korean language and use some folk stories from Korean into my teaching. Maybe there are some Korean films that can be used in teaching as well
Mohist is such a interesting philosophical idea
Thanks for sharing Historical Comparisons! The comparison of the history of Europe and Japan is so interesting. Different places have similar historical events; maybe it represents some human similarities worldwide. I also feel so impressed by Japanese history and culture. The Edo period is during the same period as Qing dynasty. Similarly, those two countries allow their people to go outside of the country and only small open parts to trade with western countries. But different countries have different historical results. After Meiji Restoration, the power of Japan became strong; however, China was still a miserable society, although they tried some revolusion. What factor infected those two countries in different ways? History comparisons between countries or continents are so interesting.
Thanks for recommendation! Water is so important but there is such a heavy water pollution in China.
I'm keeping thinking about Qin Dynasty after I watched these lectures. I wondered if the dynasty did follow the laws properly, would history of China change? The concepts of laws in Qin dynasty was so improtant and advanced, but they didn't do it well. How to repect people and meet people's needs first and the follow the laws for people's willingness? I'm thinking of how to create a new story about Chinese history if Qin dynasty can continue it's governing.
